In Partnership with Roxey Ballet Company & Regional Dance America
Train Like a Professional. Dance on a Real Stage.
The Mill Ballet School Trainee Program with Roxey Ballet and Regional Dance America.
The Mill Ballet School Trainee Program is the bridge between serious student and working dancer. It is a pre-professional experience unlike anything else in the region, built for young artists who are ready to find out what a life in dance really looks like.
Developed in direct partnership with Roxey Ballet Company, one of the most respected contemporary ballet companies in the Northeast, the program places exceptional young dancers inside a fully functioning professional ballet organization. This is not a simulation. This is the real thing.
The program rests on three pillars: performance, choreographic creation, and community service.
A Stage Beyond Our Own: Regional Dance America
Every Trainee is also a member of Regional Dance America and attends the RDA regional festival each year. For many dancers, it becomes one of the defining experiences of their young lives. At the festival, Trainees:
Perform alongside gifted young dancers from across the region
Take master classes with renowned teachers and guest artists
Meet casting directors, college dance faculty, and artistic directors of companies from around the world
Build the relationships and visibility that open doors to college programs, summer intensives, and professional contracts
It is a chance to be seen, to be challenged, and to discover how far their talent can take them.
What Makes the Trainee Program Different
Most dance schools offer advanced classes. We offer something more: an immersive, professional-track experience built on the same artistic standards that have carried Roxey Ballet to the Joyce Theater in New York City, the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and stages across the country for more than three decades.
Trainees work alongside Roxey Ballet's professional dancers and under the direct mentorship of its artistic leadership. They are held to professional standards in technique, discipline, artistry, and commitment to the craft.
What Trainees Experience
Intensive classical ballet training with professional faculty
Direct mentorship from Roxey Ballet Company artists and directors
Rehearsal and performance opportunities with the professional company
Participation in new choreographic projects, from the first idea to the final bow
Training in repertoire drawn from Roxey Ballet's acclaimed productions
Annual performance and study at the Regional Dance America festival
Meaningful community service that shares dance with audiences across the region
The physical, mental, and artistic habits a professional career demands
A front-row education in what it truly means to be a working artist
Who It's For
The Trainee Program is designed for dedicated young dancers who are ready to move beyond the classroom and into the demanding, exhilarating world of professional performance. Trainees show exceptional technical ability, real artistic potential, and above all, a deep love for the art form.
The Roxey Ballet Difference
For more than 30 years, Roxey Ballet Company has built community through the power of dance, earning a 97% Charity Navigator rating and a reputation for artistic excellence and human connection. Because the Mill Ballet School and Roxey Ballet work hand in hand, our Trainees are never just students of a school. They are part of a living, breathing professional dance company with a real mission and a real legacy.
